Delightful stamps.

Try these as well: Birds of the World on Postage Stamps

Images of birds on postage stamps, browsable by species or country, and searchable. Site also includes recent bird stamp issues, identification information, and related links.

A labor of love certainly. The 19th century brought an explosion of interest in the natural world, expressed often in artistic form. A method of controlling wild nature, taming it, making it more comprehensible, or merging nature into our lives. Think of Paul Gauguin,

The star nosed mole is amazing - the number of nerve endings packed into its nose makes even human private parts look unsensitive by comparison, and it takes sensory samples of its environment a staggering number of times per second. At a far greater speed than the overwhelming majority of advanced electronic sensors. Hopefully one day it will be possible to create electronic equipment that samples data and reacts at similarly extreme speeds. That said, if I recall correctly, its digging ability is spectacular too within its wet environment.

The horned catipeller sounds like a warped concatenation of caterpillar and propellor, which, to my 04:27 mind, is envisioned as a caterpillar with a propellor on its arse. The horned ones are no doubt extra nifty.
